Big Barramundi Garden - BYO

BYO at the Big Barramundi Garden

Brunch & Lunch

Deserves a mention if visiting Daintree Village because of its fresh produce, reasonable price and being able to "Bring Your Own" wine.
The Big Barra has a most extensive menu with a real local flavour. Right in the middle of the main street of Daintree.

Exchange Hotel - Blue Moon Bar & Grill

Newspaper Clipping - Gazette 5 Jun 2014

Formerly the "Daintree Inn"
As can be seen from the newspaper clipping above the Exchange Hotel in Mossman is open and providing meals.

We took up the offer and found the wine and meals were good value. There was a good turnout of Grey Nomads and Grey Local diners, wives, some children and other diners on the Monday public holiday.

Renovations to the old Blue Moon are not completed just yet.

Daintree Eco Lodge - Julaymba Restaurant

Rainy Sunday afternoon in the Rainforest.
Open Tablelands steak sandwich with a Margaret River claret for lunch. It seems the new epicurean regime has things under control nicely and with some swish service.
(The Daintree Eco Lodge is on the south side of the Daintree River on the Mossman - Daintree Road just before Barrat Creek bridge.)

Mossman Memorial Bowls Club - Jack High Bistro

Next door to Daintree Horizon Estate in Mossman is the Mossman Memorial Bowls Club and the Jack High Bistro. The club was voted the best Far North Queensland for 2013 a distinction it has achieved several times before. It has a bar, bistro, gaming room and lounge which is all air-conditioned, a rarity anywhere near Daintree.  The drawbacks are no undercover parking and the wifi does not extend to patrons. (Both of these features are resounding disappointments.)
Back to dining, the food is OK but a tad overpriced and the limited wine selection (no wine list) was reasonably priced.

The BIG BARRA has moved.

The Big Barramundi has been renovated and put next to the restaurant. There is a lot of action here before the tourist season with the introduction of markets in behind the big fish.
The Big Barra restaurant gets consistently high reports in Tripadvisor and enjoys the highest rating in Daintree Village.

Lunch special at Daintree Eco Lodge & Spa

Just because a resort falls on hard times doesn't mean to say that the dining room can't produce a decent meal. Noticing the special price sign from outside prompted us to try the daily special of battered Barramundi, rainforest salad and fries. The lemon myrtle dressing with slivers of pickled carrot, fennel and radish complimented the fish and chips nicely. The chilled Australian Riesling at $45 blended the specially priced meal well and made us appreciate the locals 15% discount even more.

Lunch at the Croc Eye

It is always a pleasure to visit the Croc Eye Cafe in Daintree's main street for delicious daytime meals.
We hadn't been in Daintree for several months and so we were looking forward to a relaxed lunch with a chilled white wine. We had the Pork Belly and Fish, fries and Salad followed by some outstanding coffee, in fact the whole thing was outstanding.

Julaymba Restaurant & Gallery

Daintree Eco Lodge & Spa
20 Daintree Road, 3 kms south of (before) the Daintree Village.
Excellent Barramundi, icy cold Sauvignon Blanc and first class service
go together to provide good value.

Another great Daintree dining asset.

Croc Eye Cafe in Daintree's main street.

The Croc Eye Cafe is a bright and airy restaurant right in the middle of Daintree Village.
It always pleases whether it is a full on meal or just a snazzy Baguette.
The coffee is absolutely first class.
Today for lunch we had Reef Fish and Calamari with a cracking cold Chardonnay.

The Croc Eye cafe is part of the Daintree scene and the whisperings of
WiFi coming soon are getting louder.

Mossman Bowls Club

It is many years since we have dined at the Mossman Memorial Bowls Club
but we had lunch there today.
The club has just been entered into the Queensland Club's Hall of Fame after being voted Queensland's best three times, an honour it shares with the Tin Shed in at Port Douglas.
This is a good place for lunch simply based on value as we found out by sampling the House White, a Lindeman's Chardonnay for $8.50. The Seafood Duo for $15.50, local Mackerel and Calamari rings was good but the Steak Sandwich for $12 was only 5 out of 10. Main meals include a serve from the salad bar.

Whyanbeel Valley near Daintree...

HIGH FALLS FARM for lunch on Friday 8 July 2011.
Great setting alongside the babbling brook with reasonable food reasonably priced. The corkage is a bit rich. $5 each they charge which probably makes their corkage charge the most expensive in Australia and a talking point for a long time after.

Thai Beef Salad and Fish & Chips, BYO Wolf Blass Chardonnay and Clean skin Shiraz Cabernet.
